How will it help me?

Originally developed in the US to work with couples preparing for marriage, PREPARE/ENRICH Practitioners and the couples they help continue to benefit from an extensive ongoing research programme. The range of separate dedicated inventories now also covers marriage enhancement (ENRICH), step families (PREPARE-MC), cohabiting couples considering marriage (PREPARE-CC) and older folk facing a variety of life transitions such as retirement (MATE). This research has also resulted in the development of some features shared by all of the inventories, but unique to the PREPARE/ENRICH family.

These unique features help the Practitioner to provide the best, most incisive and effective assistance to couples. The PREPARE/ENRICH process offers each couple an opportunity to learn more about the strengths of their relationship and also those areas where growth is needed. Although we would like to live in a world where every couple faced a rosy untroubled future, sadly this is not the case as divorce statistics witness. As a Practitioner facilitating this process of increasing self awareness, your personal qualities, qualifications and experience can be more efficiently utilised by reference to the Report you receive. Couples’ needs vary and, for example, some may need counselling. The Practitioner Report helps you to evaluate each couple’s needs and advise them accordingly. It is envisaged that all Practitioners will either be already trained to offer effective counselling or will make a referral if needed. Because of the unique strength of these inventories, most premarital couples can be handled effectively by Practitioners without prior counselling training. However the support of a pastoral team and the availability of competent supervision are strongly recommended.
